OLP Athletics Update (July 24, 2020)
The OLP Athletics Department is committed to the safe return of our competitive education-based athletics programs. Using OLP’s Roadmap to Reopening as a foundational plan for our return and in conjunction with the CIF-State Office, CIF-San Diego Section Office, the San Diego City Conference, state and local health and government office, we will continue to plan and prepare for the eventual return of high school sports. Below you will find the latest information for the 2020-2021 school year as it relates to the impact COVID-19 on OLP Athletics.
As we continue to navigate these uncharted waters, we thank you for your continued patience and understanding. We share and acknowledge the frustration that comes from the suspension of our athletics programs as we see the importance that these programs play in the lives of our student-athletes. We also share the concern for a safe and healthy return to school and sports and the well-being of loved ones that might be more susceptible to this virus. We ask that you continue to follow the guidelines to limit the spread by observing physical distancing, wearing face coverings in public, and washing your hands. Continuing these practices in our community will not only hasten our return to campus but also lives up to a central theme of our CSJ Charism of caring for “the dear neighbor.”
We will update our website when we have more information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach us at [email protected]
OLP Summer Camps and Team Workouts will not take place this summer. There is the possibility of hosting pre-season workouts in the fall if school campuses open and our CIF-San Diego Section allows it. We are also developing a conditioning program to support our student-athletes as they safely return from a long period of inactivity. Look for updates on this website and in the OLP eNewsletter and weekly bulletins.
Student-Athlete Registration: Sports-specific registration to try out for OLP sports teams will open as soon as we get the official start dates for each season of sport. CIF San Diego Section plans to release those dates by August 14.
Physicals: Please continue to obtain physicals when possible and email them to [email protected]. Please also hold on to a copy as you will need to upload a copy once athletic registration is open. A current physical (dated after June 1, 2020) will still be required in order to participate in OLP Athletics programs. Also of note, all OLP freshmen are required to have a current physical on file with the Front Office.
We are excited that there is now a plan in place for our student-athletes to participate in full seasons of their sports within the upcoming school year. Please note that all of this predicated upon school campuses reopening and San Diego County meeting all CA State Guidelines.
CIF-State released its plan for the 2020-2021 school year. Links to these updates can be found here:
While there is still a lot to be determined, we know for certain the following:
- Seasons of sport have been reduced from 3 seasons of sport (Fall, Winter, and Spring) to 2 seasons of sport (Fall and Spring)
- There has been a realignment of all sports combining them into two seasons: Fall sports will consist of volleyball, water polo, cross country, and traditional competitive cheer. Spring Sports will consist of soccer, swim and dive, tennis, basketball, golf, softball, track & field, lacrosse, and competitive sport cheer.
|Tentative Season Dates:
Dec 2020 - March 2021
|Tentative Season Dates:
March 2021 - June 2021
|Traditional Competitive Cheer||Swim & Dive|
|Track & Field|
|Competitive Sport Cheer|
The earliest start date designated by CIF San Diego section for fall sports is December 14 with the season-ending sometime in mid-March. March 15 is the tentative start date for the spring season which will end sometime in early to mid-June.
CIF San Diego will release official start dates for each season and each sport by August 14. At that time, San Diego City Conference will formulate league schedules for each league. We will then begin scheduling non-league competitions. Should this information be available prior to August 14, we will make sure to share with all of you.
In addition, CIF-State mentioned the suspension of several bylaws. Please be mindful that CIF-San Diego still needs to vote on whether to accept these recommendations.
We are reaching out to the leagues and organizations that oversee these programs. As soon as this information becomes available, we will post it here.
As we have been doing throughout the summer, we will continue to provide you with information specific to these two programs via email updates to the team and their parents. When we are able to begin each program, we will ensure that we provide enough time for the necessary conditioning and practices required to prepare for supporting OLP/SAHS and competitions.
