December was a great month for Pilots Basketball. The Novice Pilots played in the Bonita Vista tournament. While they did not win a game, they played very hard and showed a lot of character. The JV Pilots won the Mt. Miguel JV tournament with a perfect 4-0 record. Way to go Pilots! The Varsity Pilots have run their Overall record to 11-4 after a 3-1 showing in the Bonita Vista Christmas tournament. The Pilots lost a close one to top-ranked El Camino and had a 46-43 win over 3rd ranked Grossmont. Congratulations to Bailey Gehler ’19 who went over 1000 points in her career.
The OLP JV Soccer team worked hard over the break in the NOCC tournament in Anaheim, CA. With one sub and fighting through injuries, the girls split the tournament 2-2-0. The scoring drought was broken with 7 goals in two games by Anna Evenson, Alyssa Rademaker, Alex Carranza, Sidney Bautista, Natalie Wazzi and Marissa McRoberts. The defensive line comprised of Kate Tontz, Andrea Tena, Reina Pimentel, and Seney Larson Moreno held the opposition in addition to amazing saves by keepers Lily Strack and Hannah Vasquez.
The Varsity squad also played in the North Orange County Classic. With wins over Long Beach Wilson (2-0) and Vista Murrieta (1-0) in group play, they earned a spot in the semifinal match against Aliso Niguel and won 2-0. This set up a matchup in the finals against the #1 ranked team in the nation, JSerra Catholic. The girls fought hard and left it all out on the field in a tough 1-0 loss. Erin Healy finished the Tournament with 5 goals. The stellar defense and goalkeeping duo of Grace Kotnik and Sydney Pack only allowed 1 goal in four matches. Varsity Soccer is currently ranked #1 in San Diego, #8 in the state and #25 in the country.
