Biography:
Ryan Martin-Spencer joined OLP in 2017 after moving to San Diego from the San Francisco Bay Area where he was born and raised. He earned a business degree from Santa Clara University with a minor in philosophy and a Master’s degree in systematic and philosophical theology from the Graduate Theological Union (Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley). Ryan taught Religious Studies courses at an all girls’ Catholic high school in the Bay Area for more than 10 years and taught in the Religious Studies department at a new Cristo Rey Jesuit high school in San Jose for two years. Exploring how the transformative power of Christ’s love can inform and guide analyses of and responses to current peace and justice issues in our nation and world drives Ryan’s approach to teaching and ministry.

Ryan and his wife met while they were both serving in the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in New York after college, and they lived in two Catholic Worker houses of hospitality in the Bay Area at the beginning of their marriage. They have four young and adolescent children. Ryan enjoys juggling, playing Hacky Sack, and coaching the OLP junior varsity basketball team.
