Rita Loughrin is a graduate of Michigan Technological University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After several years working as an engineer at Procter and Gamble, she took time out to raise a family, moving eventually to San Diego. Rita has experience as a college chemistry lab instructor, science museum docent, and K-8 science volunteer. For many years she served as the DCM (director of catechetical ministry) at Queen of Angels Parish in Alpine, where she still lives. For the last six years she taught chemistry, physics, math, engineering, and environmental science at the School for Entrepreneurship and Technology (SET High) in San Diego.

Ms. Loughrin shared, “I love, love, love science and I love, love, love helping people discover the fun and wonder of science. When my three children were little, they learned the easiest way to get out of trouble after making a mess at home was to declare, ‘It’s a science experiment!’ I am excited to teach at OLP and share that same enthusiasm with the young women here.”
