Emphasis is placed on the muscular and skeletal systems, body alignment, injury prevention, and a student’s analysis of dance.

Units of instruction include various genres of dance, fitness concepts and techniques, cardiorespiratory endurance training, and nutrition. Students should have a background in a dance form to be able to clearly analyze the topics of kinesiology as it pertains to dance.

Literacy skills will be used to analyze and critique movement. Students will be able to articulate when discussing and performing dance, understanding it from all perspectives and sides, thus enriching the students’ experience and deepening their appreciation of the art form. Students will improve their technique from understanding how our bodies function in movement. Students read about, talk about, reflect on, and make connections and choices while creating and performing in dance.
