Course Description:
This one-semester course introduces the high school student to the world of architecture and design, including its history, styles and noted architects, as well as its concepts, theories, language, practice and ethics. The class will explore the fundamentals of the “hands-on” approach to building practices involving design and composition, including an exploration of sustainable and green architectural techniques. Architectural drawing, including basic skills in technical and freehand drawing, and spatial visualization will be presented. The course will include a field trip and involvement with the rich architectural environment of San Diego. Coursework will include short papers and a final, creative, sustainable design project, which will be judged by a panel.
